Knit a Radio 4 softie. When complete the radio measures 20cm (8in) x 16cm (6.5in) x 13cm (5in).
You will need:
White double knit yarn.
Metallic silver yarn.
Black double knit yarn.
Knitting needles size 4.5mm (UK 7. US 7).
Black felt.
Method:
Radio front
Cast on 30 stitches using white yarn.
Knit 2 rows of garter stitch.
Knit 2 rows of garter stitch using silver yarn.
Knit 2 rows garter stitch white.
Knit 2 rows garter stitch silver.
Knit 2 rows garter stitch white.
Knit 2 rows garter stitch silver.
Knit 2 rows garter stitch white.
Knit 2 rows garter stitch silver.
Knit 2 rows garter stitch white.
Knit 2 rows garter stitch silver.
Knit 36 rows garter stitch white.
Bind off.
Radio back
Cast on 30 stitches using white yarn.
Knit 8 rows of garter stitch (knit stitches, no purl).
Knit 2 rows garter stitch using silver yarn.
Knit 8 rows white.
Knit 2 rows silver.
Knit 8 rows white.
Knit 2 rows silver.
Knit 8 rows white.
Knit 2 rows silver.
Knit 8 rows white.
Knit 2 rows silver.
Knit 8 rows white.
Bind off.
Radio edges
Cast on 12 stitches using white yarn.
Knit approximately 60cm (24in) garter stitch. Measure around the edges of your radio to check the exact size which will vary according to the tension of your knitting.
Bind off.
Radio antenna
Cast on 20 stitches using the silver yarn.
Knit 6 rows.
Bind off, leaving a tail to sew it together (fold in two lengthways). Push it through from the inside of the radio and stitch it on.
Radio dials
Use circles of black felt and sew them on to the radio.
Knit Radio 4 words
Sew the wording on using black yarn and a knitters needle (or darning needle).
Sew the radio
With right sides together, sew the front, back and edges of the radio together using white yarn and a knitters needle (or darning needle), leaving a gap for stuffing.
Turn right sides out.
Stuff the radio with light–weight filler.
Sew the gap shut.
