Easy to knit and ideal for crisp, cold days when you want a bit of extra sparkle.
You will need:
1 ball white double knit yarn (I used one with sparkle in it).
1 ball metallic silver yarn.
Knitting needles size 4.5 (UK 7. US 7).
Method:
Cast on 48 stitches using white yarn.
Knit 1 row.
Knit 2 rows rib (knit 2, purl 2) white yarn.
Knit 2 rows rib (knit 2, purl 2) silver yarn.
Knit 4 rows rib (knit 2, purl 2) white.
Knit 2 rows rib (knit 2, purl 2) silver.
8 rows stocking stitch white (stocking stitch – knit row, purl row).
2 rows stocking stitch silver.
8 rows stocking stitch white.
2 rows stocking stitch silver.
8 rows stocking stitch white.
2 rows stocking stitch silver.
8 rows stocking stitch white.
Shape the crown:
K1, K2 tog across the row. (You will be left with 32 stitches).
Purl 1 row.
K1, K2 tog across the row; K2 tog, K2 tog. (21 stitches).
Purl 1 row.
K1, K2 tog across the row. (14 stitches).
Purl 2 tog across the row. (7 stitches).
Bind off.
Make two of these.
Make a white pom pom.
Sew the hat:
With right sides together use white yarn to sew the side seams and the top of the hat.
Turn the hat right sides out.
Sew the pom pom on top.
