Knit a Seahorse

You will need:

Sparkly dark blue double knit yarn.
Sparkly light blue double knit yarn.
Sparkly light pink double knit yarn.
Sequins, beads & diamante for decoration (optional).
Knitting needles size 4.5mm (UK 7. US 7).

Method:

Cast on 5 stitches with dark blue yarn.
Row 1–10 Knit stocking stitch beginning with a knit row.
Row 11 – k1, kfb, k3 (6).
Row 12 – purl.
Row 13 – k1, kfb, k2, kfb, k1 (8).
Row 14 – purl.
Row 15 – knit.
Row 16 – purl.
Row 17 – k1, kfb, k4, kfb, k1. (10).
Row 18 – purl.
Row 19 – knit.
Row 20 – purl.
Change to light blue yarn.
Row 21 – k1, kfb, k6, kfb, k1. (12).
Row 22 – purl.
Row 23 – knit.
Row 24 – purl.
Row 25 – knit.
Row 26 – purl.
Row 27 – k1, kfb, k8, kfb, k1. (14).
Row 28 – purl.
Row 29 – knit
Row 30 – purl.
Row 31 – k1, kfb, k10, kfb, k1. (16).
Row 32 – purl.
Row 33 – k1, kfb, k12, kfb, k1. (18).
Row 34 – purl.
Row 35 – k1, kfb, k14, kfb, k1. (20).
Row 36 – purl.
Change to pink yarn.
Row 37 – knit.
Row 38 – purl.
Row 39 – k1, k2tog, k14, k2tog, k1. (18).
Row 40 – purl.
Row 41 – k1, k2tog, k12, k2tog, k1. (16).
Row 42 – purl.
Row 43 – k1, k2tog, k10, k2tog, k1. (14).
Row 44 – purl.
Row 45 – k1, k2tog, k8, k2tog, k1. (12).
Row 46 – purl.
Row 47 – k1, k2tog, k6, k2tog, k1. (10).
Row 48 – purl.

Bind off.

Make the head:

Cast on 12 stitches with pink yarn.
Rows 1–4 Knit stocking stitch, beginning with a knit row.
Row 5 – k1, kfb, k8, kfb, k1. (14).
Row 6 – purl.
Row 7 – knit.
Row 8 – purl.
Change to light blue yarn.
Row 9 – k1, k2tog. k8, k2tog, k1. (12).
Row 10 – purl.
Row 11 – k1, k2tog, k6, k2tog, k1. (10).
Row 12 – purl.
Row 13 – k1, k2tog, k4, k2tog, k1. (8).
Row 14 – purl.
Row 15 – k1, kfb, across the row. (12)
Row 16 – purl.
Bind off.

Make the fin:

Cast on 28 stitches with light blue yarn.
Row 1 – k2tog across the row. (14 stitches).
Row 2 – Knit.
Row 3 – k2tog across the row. (7 stitches).
Rows 4–6 Knit.
Bind off.

Make the coronet:

Cast on 16 stitches with pink yarn.
Row 1 – k2tog across the row. (8 stitches).
Row 2 – Knit.
Row 3 – k2tog across the row. (4 stitches).
Rows 4–6 Knit.
Bind off.

Use yarn and a knitters needle (or darning needle) to sew the seahorse together.
Fold the body of the seahorse in two and sew the edges together with yarn leaving a gap for stuffing.
Stuff the body with lightweight filler. Sew the gap shut.
Fold the head in two and sew the edges together leaving a gap for stuffing.
Stuff the head and sew the gap shut.
Sew the head on to the body.
Sew the coronet on to the head.
Sew the fin on to the back of the seahorse.
Sew eyes on with yarn or decorate with sequins, beads and diamante.
Sew the curve of the tail tip.
