Sew a Sarong

Make a sarong/wrap to wear draped around the waist or tied to create a dress. They are so versatile and are a great way to wear a gorgeous piece of fabric that you love.

You will need:

A piece of fabric measuring approximately 91cm x 137cm (36 inches x 54 inches). I used satin and cotton.
Matching thread.

Method:

Sew a double–fold hem around the edges of the fabric. To make the double–fold, fold over a quarter inch of the fabric and then fold the same again. (I prefer to use a small hem as it has less bulk, but a half inch double–hem would be fine). Sew along the hem, close to the edges to make sure the raw edges of the fabric are folded under nice and tidy and secure. This is an easy to sew project suitable for beginners, but those with more experience may prefer to finish with a zig–zag stitch or similar.

Press the hem flat.

I used my flower hunter quilt fabric.  Available from Woven Monkey and Spoonflower.
