Bluebell & Crocus Cloche Hat

Poncho & Hat 2

Bluebell Hat 1

Bluebell Hat 2

The hat is knitted in two colours — bluebell and crocus.

The crocus side of the hat is knitted in garter stitch.

The bluebell side can be knitted in any lacy effect stitch you like. I’ve included the one I used which is a variation of the bluebell rib stitch and creates quite a vintage look to the hat.

You can also make a Bluebell & Crocus Poncho and Bluebell Scarf.

To make the hat:

You will need:

Bluebell colour double knit yarn.
Crocus colour double knit yarn.
Knitting needles size 6mm (UK 4. US 10).

Method:

Make the bluebell side of the hat.
Cast on 35 stitches with blue yarn.
Row 1 – P2, K3. Repeat this to the end of the row.
Row 2 – K2, P3. Repeat to the end of the row.
Row 3 – as row 1.
Row 4 – as row 2.
Row 5 – P2, *yo (yarn over), sl 1 (slip one stitch purlwise), K2tog, psso (pass slipped stitch over), yo, P2*. Repeat * to the end of the row.
Row 6 – as row 2.
Repeat rows 1–6 until the work measures 19cm (7.5 inches).

Reduce to shape the crown:

K1, K2tog. Repeat to the last 4 stitches on the row. K2tog, K2tog. (You should now have 23 stitches).
K1, K2tog. Repeat to the last 4 stitches on the row. K2tog, K2tog. (15).
K1m K2tog across the row. (10).
Bind off.

Make the crocus back of the hat:

Cast on 35 stitches.
Knit rows of garter stitch until the work measures 19cm (7.5 inches).
Reduce to shape the crown — repeat as for the bluebell part of the hat.
Bind off.

With right sides together sew the front and back of the hat together along the side seams and top using yarn and a knitters needle.
