Knit a sparkly gold Christmas tree. When complete the tree measures approximately 122cm x 92cm (4ft tall x 3ft wide).
You will need:
2 50g balls of gold tinsel yarn.
1 ball red tinsel yarn.
1 ball green tinsel yarn.
Knitting needles size 10mm (UK 000. US 15).
Knitting needles size 6mm (UK 4. US 10).
The tree can simply be put up on a wall.
Method:
Cast on 3 stitches with gold yarn. Knit the entire tree in garter stitch (knit stitches, no purl).
Knit 1 row.
K1. Increase 1. K1. (you should now have 4 stitches).
Knit 1 row.
Increase 1 stitch at the beginning and end of the row. (6 stitches).
Knit 1 row.
Continue increasing 2 stitches per row, followed by a knit row, until you have 20 stitches.
Knit 2 rows.
Increase 1 stitch at the beginning and end of the row. (22 stitches).
Knit 2 rows.
Continue increasing 2 stitches per row, followed by two knit rows, until you have 30 stitches.
Knit 3 rows.
Continue increasing 2 stitches per row, followed by three knit rows, until you have 50 stitches.
Knit 2 rows.
Continue increasing 2 stitches per row, followed by two knit rows, until you have 60 stitches.
Knit 1 row.
Continue increasing 2 stitches per row, followed by one knit row, until you have 68 stitches.
Bind off. (Bind off loosely).
Knit the tree trunk:
Cast on 20 stitches with 6mm knitting needles and the green yarn.
Knit 8cm (3 inches) of garter stitch.
Bind off.
Knit the tub:
Cast on 20 stitches with 6mm knitting needles and the red yarn.
Knit 8cm (3 inches) of garter stitch.
Bind off.
Weave in any tails on the pieces.
Attach the tree to a wall and decorate it with baubles or knitted baubles (patterns here).
